Key Concepts:

 Family: For this activity a family is defined as a group of people living together under one roof. Family groups may vary considerably. Consider extended families.

 Roles: A role is the function one assumes.  Within the family, different members assume different roles.  Roles may vary from culture to culture, yet all are defined so that the necessary work gets done.  If there are children some one has to watch them.

 Housing: Housing must meet the needs of the people who live in it. Housing must protect the inhabitants from the environment and building materials must be readily available.

Think About:

Why might this be a necessity? Why do people live together?

What roles do members of your family assume?

Why do you think certain people have assumed these roles?
