Leonardo da Vinci: Painter and Sculptor
"It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment
rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things."
Leonardo da Vinci
If you think Leonardo
da Vinci's most important work was primarily as a painter and a sculptor, your final
project will be a multimedia presentation that includes words, images and music
supporting your view. You will show his work as an artist and sculptor, keeping
in mind the following questions as you do your research and collect your images:
1. What are his most famous works of art?
2. What sort of paintings and sculpture did he do?
What sort of media and tools were available to Leonardo, and how did that influence his
work?
3. Did he do his art for himself or for other
people? Who were his patrons? Did they want to display his artwork simply for
pleasure?
4. How did Leonardo da Vinci's work compare with other
artists of his time? What was the Renaissance?
5. Where are his paintings and sculptures now? How
are they being preserved?
6. Do you have any further opinions or a personal reaction to
his art? What have you learned from Leonardo da Vinci that you could apply to
artwork of your own?
